This sentence keeps coming out wrong, first I typed – I don’t like people in my photos. Backspace backspace backspace, then I typed – I don’t like shooting people. Haha, I think you know what I’m trying to say! So because I clearly am lacking in the ‘people’ department, it’s just so perfectly nice that my boyfriend, Ben, is quite the opposite.
These are some photos he took out in Chek Jawa/Pulau Ubin!

So I have to leave the house in 5 minutes, some friends and I are gonna run a race, I’m a nervous wreck mainly cos I don’t know what to expect. But wish me luck and no broken anythings!

I hope you guys enjoy these lot of photos more!

Standing on the boardwalk looking down into the sea

My friend, Caili, got stuck in the mud and we were both trying not to laugh our heads off

The very fat caterpillar!

Looking down at my friends from somewhere in the middle of the viewing tower

Spotted this fella in the mangrove

Got out bright and early on Saturday and tagged along with a bunch of photo–crazy friends to explore Chek Jawa in Pulau Ubin. It’s an island away from Singapore, a very short ferry ride away. Where there are no high-rise buildings, no chain restaurants and no traffic lights, that sorta peaceful place.
I have a few more photos to share that I took using my SLR but these first, are taken with the Diana Mini using Kodak Gold 200. I won’t lie, my heart sank when I saw the photos, every single shot was shaky. It could either be the slow film speed plus the cloudy weather or my hands are really too big for the camera!
Anyway let me walk you through the photos.

On the ferry ride there

We rented bicycles and cycled to Chek Jawa

Stopped at an abandoned house

There’s no cycling allowed in Chek Jawa. You park your bicycles outside the checkpoint and go the rest of the way on foot. This photo above was taken along the coastal boardwalk, looking down at what I think is the coral rubble area.

This one was at the mangrove forest

Passed by the Balai quarry on our way back to where we started out

Just before leaving the island, we met a furry friend

There were so many creatures to peer at, it was pretty spectacular. Like the orange fiddler crabs with one giant claw, a wild boar walking in front of us and the biggest caterpillar all of us has ever seen. I’ll show you that in the next post!

I was working on some layout work for a publication this past week and tried to get inspiration and ideas from books we have around the house. Dug out this one that belongs to my boyfriend – Rock Faces by Oliver Craske – It’s a photo book of some of the greatest images of rock n roll legends. I scanned a handful and thought I’d share them with you guys. Some of these made me think of what the atmosphere was like, was there tension or was everyone playing it cool and if it makes sense that a rockstar can only be photographed by an equally rockstar, fearless photographer. They gotta be on the same level in some way right?
Now, less talk more photos, rock on m/ my friends, whatever you do.

We find ourselves in this position pretty often now. Best time of the day to be silently reading is right after waking up and brushing your teeth, I find. Just like the good ol’ days in school, only better because you can have your coffee and ibooks are allowed too.
