True and everlasting that’s what you want

Really crawling at a snail’s pace here with these Istanbul photos. Here’s some of the Dolmabahçe Palace. It was walking distance from our apartment so we decided to visit it over the Topkapı Palace. No photos were allowed inside, bummer. Let’s just admire it from the outside yeah?

Shop-related news

Two Saturdays has passed since the Pop Up Store. I had an unbelievably good time there. Made friends with fellow makers, met new faces, gained lots of encouragement, and sold a whole bunch of things. My greatest fear was not selling a single thing. So I deemed this Pop Up a success! It was an eye-opener watching how people reacted to my pom poms, for my poms to be touched by hands that aren’t mine. Some were surprised at how big the poms are in real life! That made me laugh out loud. They are big poms!

Between that Saturday and now, I’ve been taking things easy. Fulfilling some custom orders and picking up more yarn to make more, to restock the shop. That’s the easy part though. After the experience of selling face to face, I realized how much harder it is to sell online. Maybe I’m not nailing it in the ‘human connection’ department. So I’m going to try and do better with my product photos. My new thing is to bring along some poms when we go out, if I happen to come across a “cool” background, we’ll try and take some photos. It weighs less on me this way compared to a planned “photoshoot”. After lunch today, I got to put my new thing to action. I thought I’d share some here before the photos get old.

These pom pom badges sold out at the Pop Up. Not bragging, I am/was genuinely happy. So I made a ton more.

I’ll probably be quiet till the new year. So have a great end to 2013!

But I still don’t know why our love is so much

.

Some days are hard. Some days are especially harder. We catch ourselves saying “man, wish we had our house already” a lot more this holiday season. So while we can’t have our own right now, we try as much to live in peoples’ homes when we travel. Have a go at living in a duplex, take inspiration from clever storage ideas, figure out if I really want a bath tub in the future (answer is no), forever wanting a balcony… Showing Ben that rugs are great and I’m gonna rug rug rug our home!

While I’m at it, happy holidays friends!

Why don’t the moon look right

While in Kadıköy, after discovering the beautiful markets and eating delicious Anatolian food, we ventured towards the Fenerbahçe football stadium. These were some of the scenes along the way.

Close by is the posh residential neighbourhood, Moda. We didn’t make it there on our legs unfortunately.

Night time in our second Airbnb apartment.

Some recommendations on what to eat in Kadıköy:
Halil Lahmacun for lahmacun
Ciya Sofrasi for comforting Anatolian food
Fazil Bey for the best Turkish coffee
Peter Firin bakery
