We spent five days in Penang, Malaysia, last week. Our second vacation with Seth. He enjoyed every minute of it – new hotel room to explore, riding in the car with no car seat (hooray for him! boohoo for me!), swam every day, went to the beach every day, ate tasty salty food all day, had the holy trio of TV/iPad/iPhone – living his best life, really.
Even though we didn’t get to see any of the Instagram-famous street art in Georgetown, or join the long queues at roadside hawker stalls, this trip was a good one in my books. So much so we want to head back again soon! To eat more durian, to try their version of Hokkien Mee and meet more Penangites, they could not be more low-key but friendly, warm people.

In April, Ben & I headed to Tokyo & Kyoto. Tokyo was hard to grasp as a city for first-timers so I approached our days with the intention of returning to the city in the future. There is just too much popular food to eat and too many coffee shops to try! I find it hard to photograph in cities too, for some reason, so even though we were there during sakura season (which is gloooorious!), I took like 3 photos in Tokyo.

Kyoto
Kyoto is so beautiful, I was wholly surprised at all the nature it had to offer. The old charm of the city automatically made me move at a slower pace. At the end of our stay, I wanted to just live out the rest of my life there.

I plan to write another post with my recommendations!

It made me happy to hear (comments) from you old-timey blog friends! Want to say “hi!” back.
I’ve got some photos of our morning hike along the California Coastal Trail in SF. I still think about it every now and then, and miss it.
We Uber-ed to the Cliff House, the starting point. (We Uber-ed everywhere in SF. It’s the second best way to get around as a tourist. The best way, of course, is renting a car and driving yourself, which we did on our last half-a-day in SF. Surprisingly street parking wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be.) We missed out on the Camera Obscura as we were too early, it looked so cute though!

The Sutro Baths used to be a private swimming pool complex

A friend told us about Muir Woods which looks like a dream. Wish we had more time. I defo feel like there is so much more to see and do. So I’m gonna find a way back soon. While we were there, I kept stumbling upon articles that mentioned the best things about Oakland too. Allison and Diane, *waves*!

Lake Tahoe was beautiful and slow and easy. We rented a car and drove from San Francisco. I’ve never seen trees so good looking before. The scenery was stunning, people were friendly, I was so happy. Having the anxiety of finding parking/crowds/what to do/what to eat/can’t miss out removed was nice, so so nice.

Food-wise, we thoroughly enjoyed Sprouts Cafe. Ate there twice! Ben still dreams of “the best buttermilk pancakes” he had at Bert’s Cafe. Forget about trying Basecamp Pizza Co., pizzas weren’t great.

Sharing some scenes from all over Hong Kong. I’m saving some of my HK recommendations for another post. Once I get more time on my hands!
I’ve been busy working on a new design for my hanging mobiles so all my brain juice goes there. That and juggling wedding preparation so June’s pretty hectic. Had good company on the TV with Roland Garros season and next week, World Cup begins!
