4x over

I know the picture’s a little small to see the details so do click on it to see the larger version!

I’m still a tad high from the spontaneous energy a bunch of us had while working on this mini collaboration. It spanned two days? We tweeted, we decided, we did it. Basically four of us, Chups, Sel, Ser and myself (we were schoolmates back in design school) got wind of Crafty 2010 happening in October. We want to go but whined about the ticket prices for a bit. The super people behind the conference held a short “game day” to obtain discount codes so we thought, “let’s take advantage of that”! The task was to do whatever using the words ‘crafty’.

So yeah, each of us took an alphabet (some of us two) and put our own spin on it. No discussions of the direction we were each going for and I don’t know, somehow, I guess we all think differently no matter how similar we might be? WHICH IS AWESOME!

I could ramble on forever, it was just so fun altho a little frantic because I do things so slowly! Anyway do check out the Crafty 2010 website, you like-minded folks. I’m personally very stoked that something like this is gonna happen.

{Chups made C, Ser made R, Sel made A & F, I made T & Y}

spaghetti bolognese

spaghetti bolognese

I made bolognese sauce last week - a lot of it - because I’ve become a freezer meal person. I took the recipe and freezer meal idea from Real simple, I’ve uploaded a copy of it here. Remember to write the date down! (Same with all the ant & cockroach baits! Which I never do. And sorry for mentioning cockroaches when talking about food.)

Anyway if cooking isn’t your thing, here’s some worthy links to check out:
• New on The Selby; Rockaway Taco - I want to be a customer there or better yet, their homie!
• Street art at Pioneer Square in Seattle, the one of the hand… j.a.w.d.r.o.p.p.i.n.g
• Scroll down half the page to see some seriously good camera porn

I’m running late, I have to get ready and buy some shizz from the supermarket before heading to my folks’ for dinner and catch the National Day Parade on telly. It’s Singapore’s 45th birthday today!! Why I’m excited I don’t know!!!

New Drops + Drapes

HEYYY!!! I’ve just updated my etsy shop with these new babies. I used a different type of paper this time, painted some twigs to go in a different direction, played around with ‘draping’ instead of the usual ‘drops’. I really love a few of these so I hope they end up in good hands!

Also, my twigs were on some of these cool blogs (many months ago!) - For Me, For You, Color Collective, dee9:14. Thank you ladies, I was quietly very thrilled!

Cute girls

Howdy! I was supposed to blog about these new stickers on Monday. Monday became Wednesday and I’m behind on reading all your blogs as well, urgh! How is everyone?

About the stickers, I’m so in love with the illustrations and the clothes on the girls and their demeanour. I don’t think I’ve ever looked at an illustration and think “oh god, I want to be her”.

The illustrations are by Heeda but I came up with no leads on google. Wherever you are, Heeda, I love your girls and I’m gonna stick them onto every piece of mail I send out!

In other things, I finally collected my 35mm f1.8 lens from the post office today! I took these photos with my new lens.

Also I have a guest post up on my friend, Nabbycat’s blog! Do hop on over, I made a sweet little collage of melly-things and am hoping to lure interesting things out of people on the internet!

(I can’t believe it but I actually think I missed blogging, wow yipes.)

Twigs+leaves

I had some pictures involving these twigs and leaves on the blog before, those were taken during the making process. I’ve finally finished them and they’re now available in my etsy store.

The idea behind it was initially to create a decorative piece that would have movement to it. I wish I could for the life of me remember the exact point in which this idea was conceived though it definitely was a mish mash of several things I was inspired back in November combined with the origami leaves I was already making. Essentially, they’re made out of real twigs, origami leaves, string, beads and some hemp. I kinda do really love them and felt a sense of achievement when I finally figured my way around executing the exact idea I grew in my head (I, for one, don’t always succeed in that area).

I could go on talking about them forever but I’ll shush now. Do let me know your thoughts your feelings anything in your comments? Would love and appreciate that. And oh, clicking on the images will take you to the etsy listing!

family p, 2010

Drew up a family portrait in the last few days. You can click on the image to view it larger, over on Flickr. Alternatively, I learnt this rad tip from Allison - http://ihardlyknowher.com is a minimalist Flickr viewer and it’s cool cos you can choose to view your photos real big. It’s super easy to link up to your Flickr account and you’re good to go in about 7 seconds. This is mine: http://ihardlyknowher.com/greenlaundry/big

Let me know if you’re on it! I really do prefer checking out photos this way over the conventional Flickr layout, to be honest.

Where have I been?

Having one thing after another. Planning, worrying, stressing. Then a meeting today. Nursing a giant pimple right smack centre on my nose (this makes you look out for fellow pimple-on-the-nose victims, spotted one today in town). And I can’t seem to sleep every night, I’m feel hungry once my head’s on my pillow. So I’m continuing to finish what I started last year. I’m really not complaining, I’m actually in great spirits having seen this new collection from H&M via Ringo, Have a Banana! So much so that I’ve shamelessly asked a friend who lives in a city with H&M to help buy me some, come March!

Is everyone easing into 2010 nicely? I’m terrible. I like to correct people when they say 2010 is next year, but sometimes I can’t cos of who they are, all’s good though.

Eating and making

First up, photos of the picnic are up on Sarah’s! I am gonna finish up my roll of film and share those later. Love the mix of people who joined us, Sandy, Yvonne, Arlia & her 15 year old sister, Nadia, Nurul and Dybs - You girls were champs despite the rain! And I have to thank my awesome friends for being so awesome and entertaining - Nabs, Sherms, Caili, Farah - you guys, love you guys because you’re worth it! Our worlds got smaller that day, Sarah & her friend, Charlotte, went to school with Nabs and Sherms and you’re confused, I’m confused but everyone’s happy!

So abruptly moving on, I’ve been eating and making and here are photos.

My gift wrapping improved ten-folds this year! Last year it was shiny paper and lots of mistakes. Btw, you have to check out Essimar’s gift wrapping ideas, I wouldn’t mind an empty box from her, just to get some gift wrapping goodness!

Finished product. One’s going to Belgium and the rest will be put up in my etsy store! Which is totally dusty and needs a revival.

shiny in my life

I was tagged by Weareyouneak to show 7 things that are bling-bling! Sadly I didn’t make 7 and they don’t really count as bling, ha! I am so un-bling.

picked at the park

Well urm, these two photos stand alone, I know. I made new origami and went to the park to pick twigs for a project I want to try out. I’ll post more when and if it doesn’t fail.

P.S. I’m drawing the winner of frankie’s the photo album at midnight, so last chance honey!

the saddest place on earth

A boxful of comforting goodness was sent my way from mimipong. Nothing beats opening my letterbox and see it stuffed to the brim.

the saddest place on earth

There’s Weep, the tear doll / A guide to coping with sorrow / A handbook featuring collaborations with 25 artists in Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau / A set of vivid and saturated photos-turned-postcards of Weep hanging around Singapore

I heart the idea of the note pad sewn onto Weep, where you can pen down what is making you sad and give it a hug or squeeze for some lovin’. It’s a role reversal to me, no one really addresses sorrow openly. I’m actually beginning to feel Weep is more than just a blue plushie…

Weep comes in two sizes, one big enough to hug and one small enough to hold. There’s also limited edition artist dolls like this one, and it comes with a hankie pouch.

One for the photo album, Ada’s glad as hell she has a new company. What were the odds, blue and red? I took Ada along for a sleepover on Friday and she got called a ghost/Chucky the entire night!

Mimipong stocks at Strangelets, Rockstar and Cat Socrates.

I want to advocate buying handmade this Christmas but I’m having difficulty with it myself, I’ll admit. So if you have friends who are open to handmade (which can be rare outside this blogging community), buy handmade!

Drew a lil somethin’

I hope i don’t piss the birthday girl off by posting this, see i’m running out of material to share lately… I’ve been learning my CSS, sneezing and following NYFW. That’s all i’ve been doing. How earth-shattering! I know.

So anyway i made this card for my friend, Loi. And i drew these little things on it which i hope made sense to her!! The biggest fear for me, when i design or make anything is that the person seeing it doesn’t notice the little bits. I tend to focus more on the littlest things rather than larger picture… Hmm after typing that, it’s not such a good thing now is it?

{If you’re extra curious, the tiny alphabets spell Nick Carter - the Backstreet Boys are coming to town and there’s been a lot of talk about who were our faves when we were younger. AND i like to make fun of girls who like Nick just because, muahahaha. It says Captain on her arm band. We had a floorball game on her birthday and she was captain of the team for that match.}

B-b-b-buntings

I have those two lines hanging above our bed right now, in place of this poster that keeps falling off - no amount of blue tack keeps it staying put! And i can’t frame+hang it because our landlord wouldn’t be pleased with holes in his walls (boring~) but that’s okay i’ve come to terms with it now.

Anyway don’t you think it looks like a tribal queen’s collarpiece? Everytime i take a good look at it, i have the urge to use crayons to draw in some diamond-jewels, a great golden headpiece and i suppose a face to join it all up!

The whole point of this post is actually to ask if anyone would want one? I overestimated and made way too many triangles so now i have two extra strings of bunting. It’s nothing much really to say “hey giveaway!” but it’s a little too much bunting for my tiny home. So if you’d like one, leave me your email and i’ll send one over - wherever you are!

Also, Roberta Jane of Camp Comfort asked a wonderful bunch of bloggers to participate in her How I’d Wear It series, revolving around a cute pair of Topshop denim bottoms. My outfit is up on her blog today so do check it out! It was real fun, now i know why Polyvore exists.

A gnome a print

Yes i have been gone! Gone nowhere simply stumbled out of the habit to be posting. That aside, I wanted to say i’ve got new prints in my etsy store. Good night now, i’ll be back tomorrow with some photos!
