Stereophonics

I got a free ticket to go see the Stereophonics last night so I did. I love some of their songs but don’t love them as a band. Towards the end of the show, some fella threw a slipper at lead singer, Kelly Jones, and hit him on his face. Kelly stopped the song, picked up the slipper and held it to the crowd and said GOOD NIGHT and walked off the stage. It was weirrrrd and stupid of course, but more weird for me because I’ve never seen anything like this before!

But Kelly Jones is more of a champ than a rockstar – attitude wise – he came back on, finished the last few songs and thanked the crowd, da da da. And the other out-of-the-ordinary thing was hanging out with a 13-year-old the entire time. A friend brought his lil brother along. Kids actually say LOL in real life. Like ‘lol’. Weird. Word. Whoopee.

I’m going roller-blading with my friends in a bit, sk8terz!

didnt expect s’pore crowds to behave like that.. honestly i have never been to concert where people throw things at the band. that’s just sad.. but the lead singer coming back on after what happened is really admirable!

i admire how he was able to exert some self-control. i would have flung that slipper back in the crowd.

I love your concert pics. They’re always amazing. The concert sounds interesting. I went to one once where Mike Ness of Social Distortion had to ask a woman to stop flashing him because there were children present. I felt kind of bad for her because he called her out from the stage, but it was also tacky.

Someone threw a slipper at Kelly Jones? Hahahaha! Must’ve been hilarious but I guess, like you said, also very strange. Even stranger, or perhaps a generation gap? — is the fact that kids these days do say LOL in real life. I’m still perplexed at this.

O my god. If I was on stage working, singing my guts out, and I got hit my someones’ dirty old shoe, I would have thrown it back, stomped off and not come back. Did they do Closing Time at the end? Because they should have :)

chups: I highly suspect it was an angmoh who threw the slipper, judging from how big the size of the slipper was, haha! It came as a big shock to the whole crowd too. Someone even threw a water bottle earlier on but it didn’t hit anyone on stage so there wasn’t a reaction. Such a pity tho, the band’s gonna have bad memories of Singapore forever!!

nadia: REALLY! Man, this is making me feel really old.

katrina: Totally, it’s so easy to just go fuck it and give it back twice as hard! I was so mad for him! Quick story behind the first photo: I was actually trying to take a photo of this cute guy my friend was gushing over. But my shutter speed was set so slow and resulted in this photo!

kelley anne: EMBARASSING!! Oh that is epic, hilarious!!

niki: Imagine the day any of us have children… wow we would have to relearn how to communicate. And then we’d talk to our own friends funnily.

selc: roff?! ROFF!!!! HAHAHAHAHA! The acronyms take away the expression of hilarity tho, that’s the funny part to me.

ondressingup: Your comment about Closing Time made me laugh because my boyfriend also asked about that song. But the song’s by Semisonic and not Stereophonics! So confusing.

I used to listen to Stereophonics when they started out, and I even spoke to Kelly once or twice for work? It’s cool that they are still going, but their shows aren’t the most exciting, are they?
